David Halpert, an astute and strategic investor, was the founder, portfolio manager, and chief investment officer of Prince Street Capital. Among his many significant achievements, David was a seed investor in Gojek, a triumph that has now grown into one of Southeast Asia's leading super apps worth over $6 billion USD. This remarkable investment epitomizes his foresight and commitment to emerging markets, championing what some refer to as "digital decolonization."

 

In addition to his investment in Gojek, David successfully incorporated Halan MNT, Egypt's most profitable micro lender that generated an impressive $50 million in profit in 2022 alone. His record for identifying under researched and early stage investment opportunity has built his reputation in the investment world.

David has lectured at esteemed institutions such as New York University (NYU), Arizona State, and Yale-NUS, contributing to the education of future industry leaders.

Prior to founding Prince Street in 2001, David managed a long-only EM portfolio at Zesiger Capital Group from 1995 to 2000, and before that, he worked in the emerging markets investment group at Morgan Stanley Asset Management in New York. A 1988 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (magna cum laude) and 1995 graduate of Harvard Business School, David has appeared on CNBC and CNN and presented at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

 

Fluent in several European and Asian languages, he has served as a director of the American-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Singapore-American Chamber of Commerce. His writings on economics and politics have been published in various outlets across the US, Asia, and the Middle East.

From 1990 to 1993, David lived and worked in Jakarta, Indonesia as an equity research analyst. His wife is an Indonesian national, and his fluency in the language deepens his connection to the region where he invests and advocates.
